Is it Sunny Today? Was it Sunny Yesterday?

Monday 23rd February

Hello kids! How are you?
We started the week with Eva telling us about her trip to Germany with Coby! They ate sausages. They visited Berlin and saw the Brandenburg gate and the Berlin Wall. Eva’s parents drank beer. And we also saw the map of Germany and the German flag.

Yesterday was David’s birthday! Happy birthday, David!
So, David’s birthday is on 22nd February.
Remember that we use ordinal numbers to talk about order and also, for dates.
What floor do you live on? I live on the 1st floor.
She lives on the 3rd floor.
He lives on the ground floor.
How do we say the dates?
We write
We say
1st June, 2007
The first of June, two thousand and seven
22nd February, 1999
The twenty-second of February nineteen ninety- nine
30 / 4 /1905
The thirtieth of April nineteen oh five
13th June, 2000
The thirteenth of June, two thousand
3rd May, 1492
The third of May, fourteen ninety-two

Then, we continued talking about the weather.
·         What was the weather like on Monday morning?
·         What was the weather like on Wednesday morning and afternoon?
·         What days of the week were cloudy?
·         What is the weather like?

We learnt the past of the verb to be:
PRESENT
PAST
I am tired today.
I was tired yesterday.
You are tired today.
You were tired yesterday.
He / she / it  is tired today.
He/she/it was tired yesterday.
We are tired today.
We were tired yesterday.
You are tired today.
You were tired yesterday.
They are tired today.
They were tired yesterday.

Am /is -----------àwas
Are-------------àwere
When were you born? I was born on 20th June 2004.

And we finished the class with the second stage of our project: Imagine.
We made clouds of information and classified our sentences in groups: school, academy, neighbourhood and other things.
There are things we cannot do anything about. For example, getting new computers for David’s school. He said that they could sell the old ones and with donations from the people they could buy new ones. But that has to be done at his school. The rest of the group goes to a different school and they aren’t going to give money for David’s new computers!
Marcos wrote that his car is small. Sorry Marcos but we can’t do anything about it! You’ll have to tell your parents!
Then, two ideas appeared. Paula and Silvia said that they don’t like the dirt in the street or dogs droppings. Paula said we could clean the park. Somebody said that we could watch people with dogs and if we see them picking up their dogs droppings, we could give them a prize; a certificate or a sweet.
So, this is what you voted to do. Next day we are going to decide how we are going to do this!

What's the Weather like Today? What Was the Weather like Yesterday?

Monday 16th February

Hello everybody!

I am very happy with your behavior yesterday! You worked a lot and talk very little in Spanish! Well done!

We started the class with Lucía and Coby in Scotland!
They visited a lot of places. Lucía and Coby were frightened when they visited Loch Ness (‘Loch’ is the Scottish word for ‘lake’). Why were they frightened? Because people say that there’s a monster in the lake!!! How scary!!!!

Then, we continued talking about the weather.
We listened to the weather forecast (the weather news) and you filled in (completed) the gaps (spaces).
What’s the weather like?
It’s snowing in the countryside.
It’s cloudy at the lake.
It’s sunny and windy in the city.
It’s sunny and hot at the beach.
It’s raining in the forest.

It’s windy in the mountains.

Revise more vocabulary on the weather here:

We also learnt how to use, absolutely, very and quite.
It’s absolutely boiling ++++ (very much, a lot)
It’s very hot +++
It’s quite warm ++ (not much, not little)
It’s quite cool - - (not much, not little)
It’s very cold. - - -
It’s absolutely freezing. - - - - (very much, a lot)

This is how we asked about the weather.
What’s the weather like today?
What was the weather like yesterday?

And we started learning ordinal numbers.
We use ordinal numbers to say dates.
What’s the date today? It’s 17th February.
What was the date yesterday? It was 16th February.

We continued working on our project. We are still on the first stage ,‘Feel’.
And that was it!

Saint Valentine's Day and Carnival - Flipped Class

Monday 9th, February

Hi everybody!
What did we do in class yesterday?

We started with Marcos telling us about his visit to the USA. They visited the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building with Coby. They also went to The White House. He brought the pictures of the places they visited but…where’s Coby? Where’s Marcos? I can’t see them in the photos!
Anyway, good job, Marcos. Well done!

Then we corrected homework. You had to tell me about the weather using the vocabulary we had learnt.

Next Monday we are going to do this exercise. You can start practising!

After that, you show me what you have prepared for ‘Flipped Class’ and we practised the developing of the class.
Paula brought (bring) a nice present for the kids of the other class. They were Lollipops glued onto a beautiful cardboard heart and decorated with ribbons. I hope you taught (teach) the children how to make them. Paula, could you take a photo of them and post it on the blog, please?
We played Silvia’s games: ‘Pairs’ and ‘Mime and Guess’. She teaches the vocabulary and after that we play.
With Sara, the kids played ‘Noughts and Crosses’ a very nice board game she made herself. The pieces were hearts! And also a wordsearch with vocabulary related to Carnival.
Lucía asked questions about Saint Valentine’s and Carnival and gave (give) us information.
Eva brought (bring) pictures related to Saint Valentine’s and gave (give) them to the kids for their performance in the games. They were the awards (prizes).
With Marcos, the kids made Valentine’s cards. They draw a heart and wrote ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’
David brought (bring) vocabulary related to both festivals: Saint Valentine’s and Carnival. And he explained what the two festivities were.

Before the break we continued with our project for the term based on the GNO Design for Change. We are on the first stage: Feel. You wrote on pieces of paper the things you don’t like in your school, neighbourhood, the English academy… We’ll continue with this next Monday. But I can tell you what I don’t like in English class. ‘I don’t like that the students don’t listen to their classmates when they are speaking. And they whisper between them. You don’t respect your classmates and it isn’t nice.’

Next Monday we are going to solve the mystery of the ‘wall of the classroom’. Something happened to the wall and somebody knows about it. Let’s find out (discover) how it happened…

And that was all!
Thank you to Nené, Sergio and David for coming to our class. It was a lovely lesson. You are very good students. And thank you to our teachers: Silvia, Lucía, Eva and Sara. But, remember that teachers listen to their students and don’t talk among them all the time!
